Yes

Main local and/or official language(s):
Norwegian. It is necessary to be fluent in this language.

Are hygienists qualified overseas required to sit the country's national examination?
This depends on whether the applicant's training and qualification are considered equivalent to those in Norway. A short course is available should further training be required.

Information on the local working environment:
Average working week is 37.5 hours per week with 4 weeks holiday per year. 80% of the dental hygienists work within community dentistry, the rest work in private practice, mostly in the big cities.

Standard tasks that hygienists are allowed to undertake in the country:
  • Preventive dentistry
  • Examination of the patient
  • Making temporary diagnosis of oral disease
  • Radiography
  • Removal of calculus, plaque and stains from the teeth
  • teach oral health issues to "key personnel" in institutions and hospitals to maintain patients' oral health
