It is with great sadness that I start this newsletter with the news that after being so happy for Dr Esther Wilkins 100th birthday, she passed away a few days later. This icon/matriarch of our profession will be very much missed but will live on in our hearts. There are many memorials for this remarkable woman, so I have included one story of her life from her Alma Mater, Tufts University.
The Board has been busy organising the agenda for the Social Responsibility Conference, or IFDH Global Oral Health Strategy session in July in Florence, Italy. We have several exciting speakers and 15 countries attending. Mary Rose has doe a wonderful job organising accommodations and meals with the support of AIDI.
The Advanced Leadership Programme has been very popular and the organisers at the GCD Fund have extended the FREE signup period to March 31st, so be sure to get in on this opportunity while you still can!
In February, each member of the Board spoke at the Oral Hygiene Day at the AEEDC meeting in Dubai. We had the opportunity to network with dental hygienists and dentists from the Middle East region at this huge trade event.
The House of Delegates recently passed a motion to change the timeframe for ISDH back to the three year cycle until the ISDH in Dublin in 2022, so as not to coincide with other Europerio that same year. After that, the timeframe will revert to every two years and bids from countries outside Europe will be considered when Europerio is at the same time. The Bylaws will be amended so that the terms of office will coincide with the HoD meeting at ISDH.
Research Grants and Social Responsibility award winners have been notified for 2016 and can be viewed on the website. Thank you to all those who participated and congratulations to all the successful applicants and winners!
I will be traveling to the IDHEF meeting in Los Angeles March 17th in conjunction with the ADEA conference and on to Germany to meet Mary Rose and Corrie at IDS in Cologne to meet with corporate sponsors.
I will also be attending and presenting a poster at the Oral Health symposium at the World Congress on Public Health in Melbourne, Australia in April.
The Finnish Federation of Dental Hygienists is celebrating their 30 year Anniversary, so congratulations to Finland for a long and successful history of dental hygiene in your country!
